This Isn't Serious

At this point, I am not in serious trouble. My goal right now is simply to sustain the attention of the police in the Cayman Islands.

They hold a lot of fictional beliefs about mental health, trauma, rape, and incest, which really need to be corrected.

I think they are operating under many incorrect assumptions.

For example, in our modern culture, it is nearly impossible to organize a proper lynch mob. Not that I believe mob justice is a particularly good way to resolve problems.

But the reality is, the police seem to think that this can still happen easily. It actually cannot. People are far too busy, distracted, scrolling through social media, or watching the soccer to have the focus and energy required to create a good old-fashioned lynch mob.

I suppose that’s actually one positive side effect of our current culture: there are real benefits to passivity.

Unfortunately, it works both ways—predators can get away with almost anything if they do it in the shadows. That reminds me: What We Do in the Shadows happens to be one of my favourite movies. It’s about four vampire flatmates living in Wellington, New Zealand, and it’s an absolute hoot!
